🚨 Disclaimer 🚨 We’ve been hiking in the Sahyadri mountains for over 10 years now, and we usually never take unnecessary risks during our treks or bike tours. In this particular trek to Korigad Fort, we accidentally took a wrong route due to a momentary confusion. It was not intentional, and definitely not for content or views. We happened to capture the incident on camera, so we decided to upload it only to create awareness. This is not a recommended route, and we strongly advise anyone who mistakenly ends up on it to turn back immediately and not proceed further. Continuing on that path could lead to dangerous situations. This video is meant as a cautionary tale. Please don’t treat it as a challenge or adventure. It is famous for its well-preserved fortifications, stunning views, and historical significance. ______________________________________________________________________________ 🔰History of Korigad: 🔸Built during the Bahmani Sultanate (14th-15th century): Korigad Fort dates back several centuries and was originally under the rule of the Bahmani Sultanate. 🔸Captured by the Marathas (1657): In 1657, Korigad Fort was incorporated into the Maratha kingdom by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj along with Lohagad, Visapur, Tung, and Tikona 🔸Battle of Korigad (1818): When the British attacked Korigad during the Third Anglo-Maratha War, the Maratha forces resisted fiercely. However, after a long siege and bombardment, the British managed to capture the fort. 🔸Later Use: After its capture, the British partially destroyed some of the fortifications, but the fort remained largely intact and is now a popular trekking and historical site. 🔰Interesting Facts about Korigad: 🔸Massive Fort Walls: The walls of Korigad are still in good condition, allowing you to walk along the fort's perimeter and enjoy stunning views of the surrounding valleys. 🔸Lakes on the Fort: There are two large lakes at the top, which still hold water throughout the year. 🔸Ganesh Temples: The fort has two ancient temples dedicated to Lord Ganesh, adding to its historical and spiritual significance. 🔸Caves and Bastions: Several old caves, bastions, and cannon placements can still be found on the fort. 🔸View of Aamby Valley: The fort overlooks Aamby Valley, offering breathtaking panoramic views. _________________________ Korigad is a great place for trekkers and history lovers alike, with its rich past and stunning landscape. If you haven’t visited Korigad yet, do plan a trip! It’s a fantastic mix of history, adventure, and breathtaking views. 🔰Best Time to Visit Korigad: 🔸Monsoon (June to September): The fort turns lush green, with misty clouds and small waterfalls along the trail. However, be prepared for slippery paths. 🔸Winter (October to February): This is the best time for trekking, as the weather is cool and pleasant. The visibility is also great, offering clear views of Aamby Valley. 🔸Summer (March to May): It can get quite hot, but if you start your trek early in the morning, it’s still manageable and dont forget to carry water. ____________________ Korigad is located near Lonavala, about 20 km from the city, and can be reached easily by road. 1. By Bike/Car: The best way to reach Korigad is by riding or driving to the base village, Peth Shahpur. The route from Lonavala passes through Aamby Valley Road, offering scenic views. From Peth Shahpur, it's a 45-60 minute trek to the top. 2. By Train & Public Transport: Train: Take a train to Lonavala Railway Station if coming from Mumbai or Pune.
