Simpson Desert 2025 Part 6 - Birdsville to Broken Hill (It's over)

Disaster strikes in Birdsville and sees us a man down!! But we band together, come up with a plan, and head off to Birdsville. What we encounter is dirt, sand, and more dirt, which really surprises me! Fuel in Betoota, and the place looks like it was ready to party. We decide to push hard and head off, but then we find ourselves head on into the wind - and it is raging!! We battle on, and end up having a night in a dry dam to escape the elements, but get some rain. Thankfully it's not much and we survive the night. 505kms left to Broken Hill we charge on, facing not only the wind but the freezing cold as well. We have everything we brought on trying to keep us warm, but to no avail. But what choice do we have? We get the border gate open and hit the bitumen for the run home. Road kill everywhere, thankfully we survive! Woolie struggles through admirably with his broken clutch and makes it look easy, while Hunter recuperates as a passenger in the car, nursing his sore shoulder. Broken Hill makes us feel welcome and we load up the trailers, repack, and prepare for the run to our loved ones the next day.
