On a mild and sunny February afternoon a BNSF freight rolls into the hole at Tukwila Station in the Puget Sound Washington area. Tukwila is just south of Seattle. The northbound rolls in and waits as the southbound passes. The camera position here was lucky and allowed looking between cars to see the southbound. There may have been some kind of maintenance work underway on the tracks as the freights passing here caused a considerable delay for one of the southbound Amtrak Cascades, but that is just speculation on my part. The full video on this was just over 17 minutes and with editing it still runs around 9 minutes, so you have to love trains to really appreciate this video. NOTES: 1. "In the hole" is railroad lingo meaning one train moves into a siding and allows another to go by on the main (or another) track. 2. At the beginning watch for the crow sitting on lamp toward upper right of screen. The bird had been sitting there cackling for at least 15 minutes and finally decides to move away as the power units approach. 3. Recommend turning up the volume and enjoying the audio on this clip. The little Flip camcorder does an amazing job capturing all the train sounds. Listen carefully to hear the air pressure released on the brakes just before the northbound pulls out of the station. 4. There's something to be said about being this close to a freight train when it rolls by. The weight of the individual cars, not to mention the power units, substantially moves the surface enough to jar the camera around even though it is solidly mounted on a tripod.
