My latest video comes from the historic harbour town of Maryport on the north-west coast of Cumbria. I began by visiting the railway station which is one of the stops along the Cumbrian Coast line linking Carlisle with Barrow in Furness. I also took the opportunity of exploring the important role that the railways played in the development of the harbour along with the associated wealth and prosperity that their introduction brought to the town up until the early 1960’s. At the Maritime Museum I learnt about the life and times of Thomas Henry Ismay, founder of the White Star Line, along with the story of the I’ll fated RMS Titanic. The museum contains a collection of objects, photographs, and paintings relating to the maritime, industrial and social history of Maryport. My visit ended in the beautiful Memorial Gardens and by the tribute to the local inhabitants of Maryport and Flimby whose lives had been impacted by the COVID Pandemic. I hope you enjoy the video. The background music track for this video is ‘For What is Right’ by Trevor Kowalski. For more videos please subscribe to my You Tube channel ‘Stephen Bennett’s Railway Adventures’
