Great Central Railway Reunification Open Weekend | 5th April 2025

A very sunny and exciting Saturday on both the Great Central Railway in Leicestershire and the Great Central Railway Nottingham in Nottinghamshire as they put together a Reunification Open Weekend, to show visitors about the future of the GCR and GCRN and how they will connect between each other and with the Midland Mainline. We start off at Loughborough Central Station where we see movements and then catch a train to Leicester North hauled by a Class 55 Deltic diesel locomotive 55019 'Royal Highland Fusilier', we then also get a front window ride from Leicester North to Quorn & Woodhouse where we will alight and look around the station platform and station yard with a static 9F steam locomotive on display. We then take a vintage London Transport bus from Quorn & Woodhouse Station to Ruddington on the Great Central Railway Nottingham, located at the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre, at Ruddington Fields there is a miniature railway, a model railway shed and static buses and locomotives on display. After a look around Ruddington, we jump onboard a GCRN train hauled by an English Electric Type 1 Class 20 Chopper diesel locomotive, and we will travel from Ruddington Fields to Rushcliffe Halt, pass through East Leake and then to Loughborough South Junction and back. And lastly we head back to Quorn & Woodhouse GCR to watch some locomotive manoeuvres and with 'Witherslack Hall' shunting 9F 92214 back to Loughborough Sheds.
