Another year, another Castlevania chiptune cover for Halloween (and on the Namco C30 WSG cuz yes :P). After finally beating Super Castlevania this year following my triumph over most of the mainline Katamari games and Donkey Kong Bananza, I thought I'd give the infamous 1987 arcade game Haunted Castle (which was just called Akumajou Dracula in Japan because Konami liked retelling or reinterpreting the same basic scenario for like 7 years lol) a proper playthrough since I discovered that M2 added an infinite continues option for it in the Castlevania Dominus Collection released last year. Even without the restriction in continues, the game is rather shallow and poorly thought through with some of its challenges like the fast elevator and the bridge in the last 2 stages. But at the very least, Konami delivered with an incredible soundtrack as to be expected, utilizing the YM3812/OPL2 with the Konami SCC and 007232 (in fact, I even made a song with those chips together, Way Far Beyond). I was considering the Stage 5 theme Beats of the Clock Tower since it is probably the best song in the game, but I went with the Stage 1 theme Cross Your Heart instead to keep consistent with my previous covers of Battle of the Holy, Beginning, and Invitation of a Crazed Moon. And I must say, this was quite fun to make. The game originally using the Konami SCC allowed me to use the same wavetables for this cover. I had some difficulty deciding how I would scale down the song from 12 channels to 8, but I honestly think I pulled it off really well. The sound hardware emulator Hoot proved once again to be my best friend in this situation. In fact, I only needed 6 different Konami wavetables, 7 if you count the square wave used for the drums). Speaking of which, I finally figured how to replicate the sound of toms on the Namco C30 (or at least toms like the sampled ones used in Haunted Castle's music)! I felt like a genius mad scientist (muahaha) when I pulled it off in Furnace tracker, and it was exhilirating. I really don't know what else to say other than I love how well this whole thing turned out, and I hope you all enjoy it. And of course, stay tuned for whatever else comes your way from yours truly this October! ;) Here are the downloads for this song: https://drive.google.com/drive/folder...
