There are now 116 cases in the UK and one elderly patient has died from the coronavirus. Health ministers from the European Union held an emergency meeting today to discuss their collective response. More than 4,000 confirmed cases have been recorded across the 27-country bloc, with Italy the hardest-hit. A patient has now tested positive in the Vatican. More than 60 staff at Cork University Hospital have been asked to self-isolate after a case of community transmission at the hospital. There are now 13 cases in the Republic of Ireland. Four of the latest cases are connected to travel to northern Italy. Taiwan has closed its National Concert Hall in the capital, Taipei, to allow for the building to be disinfected after a prominent Australian composer who performed there was hospitalised with the virus. Brett Dean was in isolation in an Adelaide hospital having tested positive. South Korea's foreign minister summoned Japan's ambassador to protest about the travel restrictions imposed on South Koreans. Japan is putting anyone returning from South Korea or China in quarantine for two weeks. Children will not take part in the Olympic torch handover ceremony in Greece on March 19. Originally, around 140 Japanese schoolchildren were going to travel to Athens to take part in the handover ceremony. No children will be at the arrival of the Olympic Flame on Japanese soil the following day.
