Educating for Responsible AI: Human Rights as a Foundation

Dr. Claudia Roda, a leading scholar at the intersection of human rights and digital technology, will share insights on the competencies today’s data science and AI graduates need to navigate and shape emerging ethical, regulatory, and multistakeholder challenges. Drawing on her work in privacy education, international governance, and the development of the MSc in Human Rights and Data Science at the American University of Paris, Dr. Roda will discuss how academic programs can prepare students to shape the responsible, rights-centered technologies of the future. About the speaker: Claudia Roda is a professor of Computer Science, Director of the Master’s program in Human Rights and Data Science, and former Dean at The American University of Paris. She holds the UNESCO Chair in Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights and serves on the European Steering Committee of the Partnership on AI. Recently, she has been a member of the Research Advisory Board of the International Association of Privacy Professionals and of the European Commission’s expert group establishing the first General-Purpose AI Code of Practice. She is the recipient, with Susan Perry, of the 2025 UNESCO–Uzbekistan Beruniy Prize for Scientific Research on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence.
