District Congress Committee Baramulla held protest at District Headquarter Baramulla and submitted Memorandum to DC Baramulla under banner of MGNREGA Bacho Sangram. A protest-cum-submission of Memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla was held at District Headquarters Baramulla under the banner of MGNREGA Bacho Sangram, a nationwide programme launched by the All India Congress Committee (AICC). The protest was presided over by District Congress Committee President Baramulla, Mir Iqbal Ahmad. Addressing the gathering, Mir Iqbal Ahmad said that the MGNREGA Bacho Sangram movement has been launched to safeguard the rights of the poor and working-class people who are being pushed into distress due to anti-people policies of the government. He said, “MGNREGA is not a charity but a constitutional and legal right of the rural poor. In Baramulla district thousands of workers are facing non-payment of wages, delay in issuance of job cards and denial of employment. This is a grave injustice to the poorest sections of society.” Mir Iqbal Ahmad further stated that besides MGNREGA issues, the people of Jammu and Kashmir are deeply anguished over the denial of their democratic and constitutional rights. “Through this memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, we strongly demand immediate clearance of pending MGNREGA wages, transparency in implementation of the scheme, restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, and protection of job and land rights of the local people,” he said. The protest was attended and supported by senior Congress leaders including Fayaz Ahmad Mir, Shajahan Dar, Ghulam Ahmad Reshi, Misra Ji, Manzoor Ahmad Wani, Ghulam Mohiuddin Sheikh, Zameer Pandith, Dr Arshid Wali, Bilal Ashiq Mir, Bharat Kumar, Abdul Rouf Khan, Altaf Ahmad Lone, Abdul Malik Ganai, Mohammad Sultan Tell, Aitisham Hakeem, Mohammad Akber Lone, Tariq Ahmad, Hilal Ahmad Mir, Mairaj Din Lone, Abdul Qayoom Khan, Ghulam Hassan Malik, Abdul Ahad Firdoose Ahmad Rather and other party workers and activists. Mir Iqbal Ahmad warned that if the genuine demands of the people are not addressed at the earliest, the Congress party will intensify its peaceful and democratic struggle in the coming days. “Our fight is for dignity, employment, land and constitutional rights. Congress stands firmly with workers, farmers and marginalized sections of society,” he added.
