Aliens hovering over the River Agly?

Maybe there are aliens among us already. Strange thoughts during a cycle ride beside the River Agly in the south of France. A lone cloud hovered over the fields, orchards and vineyards. Shaped like a regular trapezoid and bearing a strange silvery hue, it didn't look like anything I'd ever seen. There is an 80km cycle path that hugs the bank of the River Agly from Les Barcares on the Meditarranean coast, passes under the A9 autoroute between France and Spain (the underpass is a tube!), crosses the river at Rivesaltes and continues on to a string of villages in the Agly/Cathar valley, where there are numerous ruins of Cathar strongholds like Queribus, Aguilar and Peyrepertuse. Our little cycle ride was marred by not one, but two punctures inflicted by the many needle-like spikes that fall from trees and cacti. I did my best to ease Liz's long cycle ride back to our apartment in Canet by injecting the "formule special" purchased from our local bike shop into one tyre and by pumping up the front tyre every mile or so. But she continued with grim determination, against a building breeze and strong sun.
