Becker Muscular Dystrophy (BMD) is a rare genetic condition that primarily affects males and currently has no cure. It causes progressive muscle weakness, which may become noticeable in childhood. This weakness can lead to difficulties with walking, running, standing up from low positions, and climbing stairs or steps. Children with BMD may begin walking later than usual or may walk on their tiptoes. Typically, boys with BMD struggle with physical activities and sports at school, may experience muscle cramps, and often have enlarged calf muscles. Over time, individuals with BMD may lose the ability to walk and may eventually require the use of a wheelchair. Some may develop heart-related complications, and in certain cases, breathing can also be affected.
