Second battle against Palomides (the first encounter with him is unwinnable), this time he has a trusted sidekick in Gardner accompanying him. Who's Gardner? The game says nothing about it, I believe. Then again, we don't learn all that much about Palomides either. The two enemies occupy two nods on one line each, which is handy if you want to push them together and chain them, but harmful if you want to put up a bunch of traps with Aht, since the two of them occupy quite a bit of space. I'm using a defensive party of Stocke, Marco and Aht, which is really good at dealing damage too by the way, so it kinda gets in the way of all the trap tactics. Palomides is by far the strongest of the two, while Gardner mainly acts as support, setting up heal zones for Palomides or casting Attack Rise on the enemy party, which spells out RAPE for us. Gardner isn't a threat on his own without Palomides around, but he's also resistant to magic (and more vulnerable to regular physical attacks and skills). The main reason why I decide to take out Gardner first, though, is because Palomides has a Giant Armor (DEF+30/MDF+40/MP+30) steal, and that's a pretty nice unique piece of equipment for Stocke/Marco right there (Raynie/Rosch too, but I doubt I'll be using either in this challenge). When he remains alone, there's plenty of time to steal that one without Gardner threatening with Attack Rise (after which, Palomides can easily OHKO from the back row with Crusade, as the video shows). Speaking of stealing... I've read plenty of messages online saying how steal chances go up when you chain the enemy and get your combo level higher. And really, my experience with the game doesn't confirm this assumption at all. Same with status skills actually - I've observed that both stealing and status skills (reliant on percentage and luck) work better when the enemy is in the front row, and have poor chances to work on back row enemies. Is it just my individual experience? Whatever it is, it's worked for me so far. Palomides should be pushed back after some steal attempts (and the first one is the successful steal, can you believe that?). When Palomides remains, Aht's electric traps will do absurd damage, so finishing him off when he's alone is easy enough. And that's in spite of Aht's low level and poor weapon (since I'm not buying any equipment in this challenge). Challenge playlist, updated with each new video: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list...
