Today's recipe is for a DIY Homemade Brownie Mix in a Jar. It's moist and fudgy, deliciously decadent, and tastes just like regular homemade brownies. But without all the fuss. I don't think anyone would ever guess that it's a "just add water" mix that takes hardly any time at all to make! And best of all, it makes for a perfect gift, since all you need to make these is water. You could put a cute ribbon on your jar and write the baking instructions on the tag and give these as gifts at Christmas. Or just make a few jars to keep at home for a quick dessert. Add 1/3 cup fresh lard or shortening (check your expiration date!!). Process for 30 secs or until completely mixed and smooth, like the texture of sand. Store in a quart jar; also store 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips either in a baggie or a half-pint jar; use within 3-4 months. To Prepare: Preheat oven to 350 F. Prepare a 9-inch square cake pan with parchment paper. Into a large bowl, add the mix plus 2/3 cup of HOT tap water. This hot water will help to melt the lard and give you a super smooth and creamy batter. Add the mini chocolate chips and stir again. You may also add walnuts or different flavored chips if you prefer. Fill your prepared pan with the batter and gently smooth it into the corners. Bake at 350 F for 25 mins or until it is as "done" as you like your brownies. Do not overbake. If you used parchment paper and have a "sleeve" then remove it to a wire rack. Let cool before cutting. I got 16 little brownie squares. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream. Get crazy and add a caramel drizzle and some toasted pecans. YUM. #freezedried #thrivelife #homemadebrownies #diybrownies #brownies #browniemix
