Heritage trams in Karlsruhe: Farewell parade in the city center (2021)

With the successfull launch of the Tram-Trains, which can run on both tram and railway infrastructure, the tram network of Karlsruhe became an example for many other cities. But the new lines caused the tram traffic to increase, especially in the Kaiserstrasse, disrupting the many pedestrians on the street. To remedy the situation, more than three kilometers of light rail tunnels were built between 2010 and 2021. On December 11th 2021, the tunnels were opened, while the above-ground route between Kronenplatz and Europaplatz was closed the following day. On farewell, several heritage trams, as well as two tram-train units of the first generation, ran on this route for one last time. A tram parade concluded the service on this route.
