Representation shapes what we believe is possible. This talk examines how stigma around disability is learned, repeated, and internalized. It shows how changing the stories we tell can change lives. As a physician living with a disability, Katrina brings a dual perspective to healthcare that is shaped by clinical training and lived experience. This allows her to meet patients with deeper empathy, advocate for truly inclusive care, and push for a medical system that treats accessibility as essential, not optional. As a national para-athlete, Kat reclaimed her strength through para-powerlifting, proving that disability and athletic excellence can coexist powerfully. Her journey breaks stereotypes and pushes for greater visibility in para-sports with a mission to show the world that Filipinos belong on the global stage. As the creator of Kat Out of the Box, Kat transforms her experiences into bold and honest stories to spark conversations about disability, accessibility, and inclusion. Through her content, she dismantles the myth that “disability equals inability” and encourages people with disabilities to step out of stigma and into their full potential. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
