Title: Open-Source Ecosystem for Intermodal Transportation: Challenges and Opportunities Date: Wednesday April 19, 2023 Time: 10:00 EST NEW YORK 16:00 CEST AMSTERDAM 22:00 CST BEIJING Abstract: This INFORMS RAS webinar will discuss the challenges and opportunities in developing an open-source ecosystem for state-wide and national intermodal transportation systems modeling and optimization. The webinar will explore the practicality of constructing a digital twin system, harnessing the power of open-source models and open data, and bridging the gap in multiresolution modeling. The first part of the webinar will focus on General Modeling Network Specification (GMNS) and machine learning for real-time system replication and optimization. The second part will present recent advancements in open-source optimization, benchmarking, and open data ecosystems for RAS communities, including the development of two open-source transportation engines, Path4GMNS and TransOMS. The aim is to establish a high quality modeling ecosystem for transportation researchers, planners, and software vendors in national intermodal freight transportation systems modeling. About the speakers: Dr. Xuesong (Simon) Zhou from Arizona State University (ASU) focuses on the methodological development of open-source tools in multimodal transportation planning applications. Dr. Zhou has previously served as the Chair of INFORMS RAS in 2016. Dr. Zhou serves as the conference chair for the TRB Innovations in Travel Analysis and Planning Conference and the subcommittee chair of Network Models in Practice in TRB Committee on Transportation Network Modeling (AEP40). Dr. Peiheng Li is a senior operations research specialist at Norfolk Southern Corporation, one of the seven Class I railroads in North America. He has been leading optimization engine enhancement and development to deliver reliable service and drive productivity since 2018. He is also an active open-source software developer and architect of several projects, including Path4GMNS, TransOMS, and so on.
