uilding a community-based World Language classroom involves fostering meaningful connections between students, local communities, and global networks. Classroom culture should emphasize collaboration, inclusivity, and risk-taking in language learning. Local engagement can include guest speakers, partnerships with businesses, and service-learning projects where students apply their skills in real-world contexts. Expanding globally through pen pal exchanges, virtual collaborations, and cultural events helps students see language as a bridge to the world. Project-based learning (PBL) encourages students to create travel guides, run simulated businesses, or organize cultural showcases. Leveraging technology—such as blogs and social media, enhances engagement. Additionally, family and school involvement through Multicultural Festival, Lunar New Year Celebration, Moon Festival, etc., and advocacy efforts strengthens community ties. By integrating these strategies, students develop linguistic proficiency while understanding language as a tool for authentic communication and cultural appreciation. In this webinar, the presenter will share her strategies in building the Community-Based World Language Program.
