Excretion is the process of elimination of nitrogenous wastes from the body. When the proteins are metabolized, nitrogenous wastes are produced. These wastes are to be elimintated from the body as soon as possible. So for the elimination of such wastes every organism has got an organ or organ system called Excretory system. Based on the nitrogenous waste excreted, animals categorized into three types viz., Ammonotelic (excrete ammonia), Ureotelic (excrete urea), and Uricotelic (excrete uric acid). Generally aquatic animals excrete their nitrogenous wastes in the form of ammonia. Prawn, as it is aquatic animal also excrete ammonia. Hence it is ammonotelic animal. It doesn't mean that all the nitrogenous wastes are excreted in the form of ammonia only. But Prawn excretes some amount of nitrogenous wastes in the other forms also. Main excretory organs of Prawn are Antennary or Green glands, a pair of them present in the coxal podomere of each antenna. They are able to extract the nitrogenous wastes from the blood and expel them through excretory aperture or renal aperture. Integument is cast off when prawn undergoes a series of moultings. Along with integument, nitrogenous wastes deposited on it will also be expelled at each moult. Hence, integumaent is also considered as an accessory excretory organ in Prawn.
