It serves as a solution to ghostly and evil problems that cannot be resolved by soul incantations. The eight directions plus the center are known as the Nine Heavens. The Nine Heavens give birth to nine qi (vital energies), and since these qi originate from the southeast, emerging directly from the Thunder Gate, they command the thirty-six thunder decrees, nurturing virtue and eradicating evil. Taoism regards the Nine Heavens as the supreme command bureaucracy, overseeing the thirty-six heavens. The Nine Heavens report to the Jade Pure Realm, respectfully inviting the Jade Pure to summon the Thousand Immortals to assemble in the Imperial Court. Among the Thousand Immortals are the Taiyi Deity and the Dual Emperor Deities, whose functions include concealing themselves while overseeing all evil, regulating qi, and preserving life. Should any inauspicious beings defy or offend the deities, the Green Emperor, who governs flying immortals and the Five Sacred Mountains, will issue orders to organize and equip forces to conquer evil. Within the ranks of these evil-conquering forces, seven great deities wield eight-jin battle axes, which were specially prepared by the Heavenly Emperor as auxiliary forces for waging war against demons, known as the Right Expeditionary Troops. Within this force, whether those who drive chariots or martial soldiers of the celestial realm, each possesses a unique set of abilities. They wield divine spears with lightning-like swiftness, while the Immortal Emperor holds a staff symbolizing the issuance of commands. The Thousand Immortals march fearlessly forward, leaving no hope for treacherous demons.
