Full journey from Leeds to Newcastle on board a 4 carriage Cross Country trains class 221 Super Voyager train along part of the East Coast Main Line. This journey was filmed on Saturday 17th April 2021 on the 0615 Bristol Temple Meads to Edinburgh service which called at York, Darlington and Durham between Leeds and Newcastle. In some hours additional XC services operate between York and Newcastle from Reading which operate via Doncaster instead of Leeds. Many other services are provided between York and Newcastle by LNER from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh/Aberdeen/Inverness/Glasgow Central, TransPennine Express from Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Airport to Newcastle, Grand Central also operate between York and Northallerton as part of the Sunderland route. Between Leeds and York there are other service options in the form of Northern, TransPennine Express and LNER with East Midlands Railway no longer serving this route. At Newcastle station there is interchange via Central station for both the Green and Yellow Tyne & Wear Metro lines to Newcastle Airport, South Hylton, St James and South Shields as well as the coast loop. The rolling stock on XC services on this route is mainly class 220 Voyager and class 221 Super Voyager which operate either as single 4 or 5 carriage units or in multiple to form 8 or 9 carriage services. HST (High Speed Train) class 43 locomotive with Mark 3 carriages are used on a limited number of services in 2+7 formations however these are currently in the process of being withdrawn. Other operators along this route operate services using rolling stock such as class 195, class 158, class 800, class 801, class 802, class 185 and others. This route is electrified between York and Newcastle using AC overhead electrification and is in the process of being electrified between Leeds and York as part of the northern TransPennine route upgrade. This route is mainly double track with 4 tracks between York and Northallerton. At Newcastle services usually operate directly in to Newcastle station how ever in the event of disruption services can loop round via the high level bridge with a reversal required to continue north.
