It occurs because of disruptions in how the brain processes writing/text/images so they can be understood. Most people learn they have dyslexia during childhood, and it’s typically a lifelong issue. People with dyslexia may experience visual processing challenges while reading, such as text appearing blurred, shimmery, or double. They may also have difficulty locating words on the page, skip words, reverse, or transpose. Often, dyslexic children end up with an IEP. An IEP, or Individualized Education Program, is a legally binding written document that outlines the specific educational goals, services, and accommodations for a child with a disability to ensure they receive a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). Developed collaboratively by a team including parents and school staff, the IEP details a student's present needs, their measurable annual goals, the specialized instruction and related services they will receive, and a method for monitoring progress. The IEP is mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). IEPs can range from being impactful to ineffective. It all depends on the school and team serving the student. I will be coming out with a video on how to tell the difference. Auditory processing disorder (APD), also known as central auditory processing disorder (CAPD), is a condition where the brain has trouble understanding and interpreting sounds, especially speech, despite normal hearing. This means a person with APD can hear sounds clearly, but their brain has difficulty processing and making sense of what they hear. APD impacts reading because children struggle to line up what they are hearing with what they are looking at. Auditory Processing Disorder can significantly impact reading skills because APD affects the way the brain processes and interprets sounds, which is crucial for developing strong reading abilities. Difficulty processing sounds can lead to challenges with phonological awareness, decoding, and reading comprehension. A child with APD must be taught to read in a very specific manner. Keith Deltano stayed back in third grade because he could not read. He has dyslexia, ADHD, and auditory processing disorder. He went on to become an award winning teacher and built a remedial reading course (https://www.nofearreading.com/) as unlike the boring, redundant courses he went through as possible. Your child will learn to decode, read fluently, and comprehend what they are reading. They will even learn strategies they will use to pass the EOGs (End of Grade tests.) 00:00 Dyslexia, ADHD, and APD - Easy Does Not Work 00:31 Is Your Child Making Significant Progress? 00:56 Meet 2 Parents Who Gave Up Easy 01:47 Build an Integrated Reading Unit 03:20 Multisensory Phonics Instruction 04:58 Don't Read to Your Dyslexic Child 05:49 Guided Reading 06:28 Fun Matters 08:10 Baby Shark Teaches Reading
