San Diego CA🇺🇸 to Tijuana Mexico🇲🇽🚉15.4.2001 Easter Sunday✝️Day excursion On Sunday morning, i boarded San Diego ‘Blue Line’ Trolley at 5th Avenue, $4.50 return and 45 min to US/Mexico border town of San Ysidro. walked across a pedestrian skywalk bridge to Tijuana, the busiest border crossing in the world - no visa is required for a day excursion to this warm and welcoming city with authentic Mexican charm, but nevertheless i had my passport stamped as proof that i was on Mexican soil. After walking one block to Fontera Street you can take a taxi downtown for $5, or follow a pedestrian path to Plaza Viva Tijuana, an open-air mall with lots of pharmacies targeted at US customers, restaurants, handicraft and souvenir shops connected by a bridge to a sprawling downtown that feels looks a little third world city. The neighborhood near the pedestrian entrance into town may be a dumpy maze of pill shacks and souvenir shops, but it doesn't bite. From here, a short walk takes you to Avenida Revolución, a vibrant tourist hub lined with numerous shops, cultural sites, restaurants and crowded bars interspersed with pharmacies selling cheap medicine. You can't miss the logo of Hard Rock Café spinning above the roof at 520 Avenida Revolución between 1st and 2nd streets, and the iconic fishtail rear end of Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz hanging outside the wall - inside there was no mistaking the beige stucco, hardwood floors, collectible posters, autographed guitars and brightly lettered T-shirts, sweat shirts and jackets that filled the gift shop, and needless to say i bought a collector’s signature T-shirt. From here, i headed to Iguanas Ranas Bar & Grill at the corner with Calle Carrillo Puerto and treated myself to an authentic Beef Enchilada with guacamole sauce to the titillating sound of a Mariachi band from Guadalajara serenading customers in the balcony. Coming back into the US took twice as long as coming in waiting in queues for 2 hours at the border crossing before taking the trolley back to downtown San Diego and getting off at 5th Avenue*💓
