Here I show a video with several techniques how I approach the pec minor muscle for a myofascial treatment. ⠀ From my previous posts you know that the pectorals minor plays an important role when it comes to pathologies around the shoulder girdle. It is a muscle that becomes easily shortened and tight due to many factors, including rounded shoulder posture, glenohumeral joint dysfunction, breathing dysfunction and a variety of compensation patterns. It sits on top of the brachial plexus, and can therefore contribute to Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. ⠀ The pec minor is a short and powerful muscle that can frequently become facilitated and contributed to a host of compensation patterns. Don’t forget this muscle when treating neck pain, chest pain, shoulder pain, arm and hand pain, hip and leg pain, and breathing pattern dysfunctions. ⠀ Before you start working on the pec minor you need to clear the whole shoulder girdle and spine area! For the diagnose it is very important to eliminate every single reason which could lead to pec minor tightness, that means always check the full body! ⠀ The video shows several active & passive fascial release & trigger point techniques. If you perform a trigger point technique make sure you hold the pressure as long the patient tells you the pain or the radiation goes down or is gone but at least for 1 minute and finish the technique then with a Ponçage. I usually hold the pressure until i feel a myofascial release under my finger! ⠀ If you release the fascia of the pec minor make sure you perform the technique from origin to insertion to lengthen the fascia if the pec minor is locked short or from insertion to origin to shorten the fascia if the pec minor is locked long (very rare)! ⠀ If you perform a active fascia release technique make sure the patient is doing about 15-20 movements and then you do a re-test. Keep on going with the technique until the pec minor is relaxed.
