St. Kitts Labour Government: Road to Cockleshell Bay Completely Resurfaced. The rehabilitation of roads around the island continues with road works on the road from Cockleshell Bay to the nearest main junction on the South East Peninsula. The 1.25 kilometer distance received its final touches of asphalt on Monday afternoon after commencing on Friday. For several months, Surrey Paving had been preparing the road works by widening the road, enhancing drainage, and leveling the road. Surrey Paving officials said on Monday that minor cleanup and proper road markings are still to be tackled in order to complete the project. Asim Martin is the area Parliamentary Representative, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Public Works. In February, Dr. Martin said that the work would be completed before the end of the year. Major tourist attractions Beach House, Spice Mill, Reggae Beach, and Lion Rock Beach Bar are accessed via the Cockleshell Bay Road. Recently drivers received a reconstructed roundabout at the entrance to the Kennedy Simmonds Highway. Road work continues on the construction of a new roundabout near the ECCB Headquarters to join traffic from Basseterre, Bird Rock, Frigate Bay, and the Kim Collins Highway. And several streets in Central Basseterre have also recently been resurfaced. According to Dr. Martin, additional work is scheduled and will continue over the next few months.
