The fortress turned out to be closed for repairs, but the climb led me past the iconic Mother of Georgia statue, hidden ruins, and even the glass-box palace of Georgia’s billionaire ex-prime minister. To top it all off, I finally found the famous red wine ice cream in Tbilisi’s Old Town.
