Welcome to part 1 in our documentary series from Los Pirineos. Tim has once again invited Håkon from Rammelaus to join him on a trip, this time to El Salvador. Together, they aim to capture what life on a coffee farm is really like, and to show you how each stage of coffee production actually works. Even for those of us who work with coffee every day, it can be hard to fully understand the process without seeing it for ourselves. Tim has been buying coffee from Los Pirineos since 2010, and over the years he developed a close friendship with the farm’s owner, Gilberto Baraona. In 2020, Gilberto sadly passed away. At the time, his son Diego was 25 years old and living in Barcelona, where he was studying and building a life of his own. The sudden and heartbreaking loss of his father left Diego with a difficult decision: to sell the farm that had been in the family for now 140 years, or return to El Salvador to continue his father’s work. Thankfully, Diego chose to come home and carry forward the legacy that Gilberto had built. Like his father, Diego is proving to be a true visionary. He has a clear plan and strong ideas for how he wants to improve and grow the farm during his time there. That is why we are confident he will be producing some of the finest coffees El Salvador has to offer in the years ahead. Video production by Rammelaus.
