Rhön Mountains - Thanksgiving with herb pancakes and Rhön leg of lamb | At our Neighbour's Table

The Rhön extends over 1500 square kilometres and three federal states - Bavaria, Hesse and Thuringia. Because of the wide views, the region is also called the "Land of Open Distances". The former volcanic massif is characterised by open country, mixed forests, steep basalt peaks, lonely plateaus and dark moors. The Rhön sheep is one of the oldest sheep breeds. Not only is its meat and wool marketed, the Rhön sheep are also landscape keepers and contribute to biodiversity in the Rhön through their feeding behaviour. The two cook "Rhöner Mehlklös" in a modified version with a colourful vegetable curry - Rhön recipes on Asian. It was Franz who bought the run-down farm in the 1980s and founded the first rural commune in the Rhön here. Today, four families live in the farm community. At the beginning of October, everyone celebrates harvest thanksgiving together. For this, Vanessa tries out typical recipes from the region, such as the Rhön apple and sour cream cake. Till and Samuel Vollmer, who also grew up in the farm community, prepare a leg of Rhön lamb from shepherdess Julia. While the children prepare the campfire, Vanessa harvests in the community garden for the "Rhöner Ploatz", a hearty sheet cake based on rye bread.
