One of the two very classy non-Shadows early 1960s instrumentals that mysteriously failed to chart. The other was The Mexican by the Fentones. The Outlaws consisted at this time of Roger Mingaye (lead guitar), Ken Lundgren (rhythm guitar), Chas Hodges (bass guitar), and Don Groom (drums). The late Chas Hodges did, of course, later become famous as one half of Chas and Dave. The band at one time featured Ritchie Blackmore on lead guitar. The composer is Dandy Ward according to the 45 single, about whom I know nothing. Geeks, Nerds and Anoraks Corner. Reportedly Roger Mingaye played a Gibson Les Paul Junior fitted with a Bigsby tremolo unit for this, and I found the sound exceptionally difficult to reproduce, but the closest I could get was as follows. The bridge pickup of the Burns Marvin Anniversary added something that I could not get on the Strat and to boost the mids I used a Boss 7 band Equaliser. But the most important part, and I spent hours trying to get it as perfect as I could, is the Boss Compression/Sustainer pedal. The settings I used for both of these can be seen in the video. Several echoes from the H & C echo unit would suffice but I used patch 41. The backing track, the only one I could find, is by Roger Allcock from one of his Backtrax CDs. I spent hours on the sound for this, I hope you think it worthwhile.
