Rachel Hodgdon and her wife, Marissa, saw an opportunity to meet multiple needs at once when they decided to build their second home on Cape Cod. As the couple began planning and designing, they decided to focus on not only the needs of their young family, but also healthy living goals and age-in-place considerations for Hodgdon’s parents. These multiple priorities found balance in the final design of the home. The home appears like a single-family residence from the outside. Inside, it’s actually two separate-but-adjoining spaces. The clever floorplan lets the families choose if they want to spend time in the more open floor plan areas of the house or the quieter, more closed off, private sections of the home. The design team for the home wanted to create a strong connection between the home’s interior and the exterior environment. They chose windows and doors from the Marvin Ultimate and Modern collections. The collections’ large profiles and clean lines met the home’s aesthetic and accessibility needs. Hodgdon and family utilized the personalized services available at Marvin at 7 Tide in Boston to help visualize the scale of the windows and doors in their home. This was especially important given the impact windows and doors have on well-being in the home. “When it comes to designing a healthy home, windows play an extraordinarily important role,” said Hodgdon. “They support thermal comfort and acoustic comfort. They're an important part of meeting your energy efficiency goals. They provide a sense of place, access to the outdoors. They allow for the daylight that helps improve everything from mood and focus to a better night's sleep.” Read more on the Marvin blog: https://www.marvin.com/blog/multi-gen...
