We’ve all heard how important it is to winterize our cars and our homes to prepare for cold weather, so what about our bodies? Are there any special things we should be doing to ensure that we can enjoy a safe and healthy winter season? Participants of December’s AgingWell will hear from Dr. Laura Moore, Geriatrician at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist on some of the things we all can (and should) be doing to not just survive the winter but THRIVE in the winter! With so many delightful destinations in our area this holiday season, we decided to share two LivingWell feature segments for the December AgingWell program! What could be more fun than an old-fashioned scavenger hunt? How about a scavenger hunt that leads you to an 18-foot troll made entirely of recycled wood! December’s AgingWell attendees will have the opportunity to meet the latest Troll installation created by Thomas Dambo, a world-renowned Danish artist who has created 200 trolls throughout the world. Melody Burnette, President of Visit High Point gives us the history of the project as well as introduces us to High Point’s own troll, Little Sally, who has been crafted from reclaimed wood, with parts of her hair made from old furniture legs to honor High Point's history as the Furniture Capital of the World! Did you know that you can be magically transported to a spectacular winter wonderland just a short drive from Winston-Salem? William Lewis, Cultural Arts Manager for the City of Cary introduces AgingWell attendees to the spectacular North Carolina Chinese Lantern Festival that is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year! The Festival takes place on the 14-acre grounds of the Booth Amphitheater in Cary and features hundreds of hand-painted, illuminated silk sculptures that are lovingly crafted by Chinese artisans using skills passed down through generations.
