This webinar will discuss a groundbreaking research project that began with a comprehensive systematic review of exercise interventions for adults with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and a qualitative study focused on understanding the wants and needs of adults with CP who use wheelchairs. The findings from these studies have led to the creation of a remarkable Beach Accessibility community event. Our discussion will highlight the impact of this research-driven initiative, highlighting how insights gained from the systematic review and qualitative study have not only informed but also shaped the design of Beach Accessibility Day. This event was tailored to meet the wants and needs of not only adults with CP but also all people living with a disability and their families. The success of this event has become a beacon of inclusivity, offering opportunities for community physical activity participation at the beach, including walks, surfing, and fostering a sense of community. Join us to learn how this project has initiated change and listen to those who participated in the day and how they have been positively affected by it. We will also explore how this research-inspired day has created an appetite for change within the community and local council. Celebrate the power of research to inspire community engagement, challenge preconceptions, and create tangible change in the lives of people living with a disability, the community at large, and local government. Join us in sharing the success of this CP-Achieve inspired project. James Czencz is a physiotherapist working in rural South West Victoria, an early career researcher at Australian Catholic University, Surf Lifesaver at Port Campbell Beach and a CP-Achieve Research Associate. James’s research and career interests are in physical activity based interventions. James is focused on youth and adults with cerebral palsy and his aim is to explore mobility and functional decline across the life span and how this could be mediated by improving opportunities for community based physical activity. This session entitled Riding the Waves of Change: From Research to Community Revolution: Unleashing the power of inclusivity by promoting beach accessibility for people living with disability and their families was presentation by James Czencz from Australian Catholic University and was recorded on 21 February.
