Taken on 2/9/24. Footage of a ride on 2023 New Flyer XD40 9362 operating on the Q50 from Flushing to Co-Op City. Bus 9362 is part of an ongoing MTA Bus Company order to replace Orion VII Hybrids. The oldest buses remaining will turn 17 this year (Orion VII OGs, which very few remain). Most of the NG Hybrids are 14-16 years old. As the XD40s arrive at Eastchester Depot, some Orion VII NG Hybrids were sent to Queens. LaGuardia Depot is currently receiving buses from this order as well, and JFK & Far Rockaway Depots will soon get them. This ride shows the full route which only operates during early AM and rush hour periods on weekdays. During all other off-peak periods, buses only run between Flushing and Pelham Bay Park (6) train station. The bus in this video was also the first scheduled trip for the PM rush to Co-Op City. The previous Q50 before it (seen at the start and various other points in the video) only operates to Pelham Bay Park, where it drops everyone off and then turns into a Bx23 via 1-2-3-4-5. However since it was running a full interval behind (15 minutes), the bus kept going with no break at Pelham Bay. That is also why the bus was not terribly full until it got into The Bronx. During off-peak periods, virtually all Q50 buses interline with the Bx23 at Pelham Bay Park. This used to not be the case, as Q50 operated daily into Co-Op City. However as part of the Bronx Bus "Redesign" (I think redistribution is a better fit), off-peak Q50 service was cut back to Pelham Bay Park. This overlooked the longer span of service the Q50 had (in particular early AM service), which led to the addition of early AM Bx23 service starting around 3:30 AM, which was then later restored on the Q50. Most people on the Q50 also are not seeking Pelham Bay Park, they want to go into Co-Op City, so the newer service pattern forces riders to make an extra transfer. As part of the Queens Bus Redesign, the Q50 is slated to be extended to LaGuardia Airport via the current Q48 alignment. Buses would travel via Roosevelt Avenue, 108 Street, Ditmars Boulevard, and into LaGuardia Airport. Buses would not serve Terminal A as proposed in previous drafts. Service to Co-Op City will be retained but still remain during existing weekday periods only. If you want to comment on the proposed Q50 route, such as demanding off-peak service to return to Co-Op City and voicing favor/opposition to the LGA extension, submit comments on the form and/or the remix maps below: https://contact.mta.info/s/forms/bus-... (Comment Form) https://platform.remix.com/project/d6... (Remix Map) Be sure to also voice your comments on this (or any other routes) at any in-person town halls and virtual meetings. Keep in mind that this upcoming public comment period is the FINAL opportunity to get substantive changes made before the MTA releases its new network map.
