Stage Pond (Florida) Ghost Town and Cemetery

Take a tour with me of Stage Pond Cemetery and learn about the history of the town Stage Pond, now a ghost town in Citrus County. The town didn't last long and one of the only reminders from those days is this cemetery. Many of the folks buried here were the early settlers of the area and still have family who live in the surrounding areas. It is a beautiful and peaceful resting place surrounded by a scenic wilderness. Population in 1885 was just over 200 people. The town had a post office, general store, turpentine still, a convict camp, a cemetery, and a school. Stage Pond was a small thriving community as late as 1920, with a tavern, general store, 2 churches and an Inn. It was on the main coach line from Jacksonville to Homasassa, Florida and was a Stage Coach Way Station. It was eventually abandoned. The cemetery today is now maintained by family members and volunteers. Please be respectful of this cemetery if you visit and do not disturb any of the gravesites. Rest in peace.
