Train Drivers View on the intercity service from Leiden Centraal via Rotterdam Centraal to Dordrecht in The Netherlands. Today we run a VIRM with 6 carriages on a beautiful sunny day. It’s 9.30 in the morning and after passengers from the connecting train cross platform are all on board we depart perfectly on time from Leiden Centraal. At the start of the video we begin with the famous ‘train race’ towards Den Haag. We speed up the train to 60km/h to hit the junctions as comfortable as possible for our passengers. As soon as we’re through the junctions we speed the train up to 80 and 140km/h and then let the weight of the train do the rest of the work. I forgot to add the Vlimit 140km/h after leaving Leiden. Just so you know. 😊 After we departed right on time from Den Haag Laan van NOI we have to wait on a delayed Intercity Direct train coming from Eindhoven. This train has a very small delay and already keeps other trains waiting. This is the reason why we arrive one minute late at Den Haag HS. After departure we keep the trains speed to its maximum and arrive on time at Delft. In the tunnel we have a temporary speed limit because of problems with the air pressure as long as we don’t have all tunnel tracks available for traffic. After Delft we speed up the train to 140km/h and let the weight of the train do the rest of the work. Same story between Schiedam Centrum and Rotterdam Centraal. One time 90km/h and the rest is done by the weight of the train. On our departure from Rotterdam we see Thalys train departing on our right. A few seconds later you can see an older Thalys train with a fresh print coming out of the tunnel. Nice meeting for train spotters! We speed up the train to 50km/h and arrive perfectly on time at Rotterdam Blaak. After this station we keep the speed on 100km/h until we got passed all junctions between Blaak and Lombardijen. I only drive full speed at these tracks when we’re delayed, which is not very comfortable I can tell from experience. As soon as we’re passed Rotterdam Lombardijen we speed up the train to 140km/h ones more. On our arrival at Dordrecht you can see we need to take the speed down because there is a delayed sprinter on the track ahead of us. It looked like this happened because the bridge was opened for a short amount of time. On our arrival you can see an ICMm, SGMm, VIRM, SLT and some GTW trains waiting for a new journey towards all kind of cities in Holland. Stay tuned for more via Instagram or Twitter! Cheers!
