This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Do Jerks win? This is the question that led Dr. Ron Storm on the search to identify what makes one group win and another lose. As a new employee in industry he observed that it seemed like the more arrogant and the bigger ego one had, the faster they moved up the corporate ladder. This led to research that explored the area of Groupthink and Cohesion to gain a greater understanding and answer to the question “Do I have to be a Jerk to win in business?” Ron is a Quantitative Social Scientist and Technologist. His research in the area of individual and group decision making was inspired from his time spent in business and industry observing the decisions and actions of leaders and wondering whether to be successful, “Do I have to act like that?” About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
