Hiking Kelso Dunes & Rings Trail, Day 2, Mojave National Preserve, California

After freezing all night I was very happy to see the sunrise and break camp. Heading back to Kelso, I decided to have a look at the giant sand dunes. Getting to the top of the highest dune made me realize just how much I enjoyed hiking in deep, soft sand. Wrapping up the day, I wanted to hike the Hole In The Wall Rings Trail. To be honest, I was a little disappointed in this one. Some of the reviews hyped it up but I didn't find the rings to be much of a challenge at all. The hike itself was easy and the scenery was great. Going clockwise would give one the chance to climb up the rings, I went down the rings. An added bonus was checking out the rock art in the area. Day 2 in the Mojave Preserve went just fine and it was a good trip to orient myself with the area. Look forward to returning and bagging some peaks and hopefully finding some canyons to descend!
