Dropping your baby’s third nap is rarely as simple as just skipping it. Before making that change, we need to be confident your baby has the stamina to cope. That staying power matters more than the number of naps on paper. If you’re dreaming of a day with only two naps to juggle, it helps to remember that those naps need to be spaced comfortably. For most babies, this means tolerating an awake period of up to four hours somewhere in the day. If your baby is not quite there yet, the transition is likely to be bumpy. When families take the plunge a little too early, I often see the same pattern. Bedtime suddenly shifts much earlier, followed by a false start. That frustrating wake up around 30 to 40 minutes after going to bed. In these cases, the baby has not missed the third nap at all. They have simply repurposed the new bedtime and treated it like a late nap instead. Sound familiar?
