TO THE PATREON: / bardcollegeofcitrus TO THE TWITTER: / citrusthebard Today, the Bard College of Citrus continues to fill out its lyrical lexicon of some the multiverse's most malodorous malefactors, this time turning our citrusy gaze down into the Abyss, where Orcus, Lord of Undeath, manages his horde of those no longer living. The lingering stench of the undead, known quite well to clerics and paladins alike, is his bread and butter, and oh how he longs to spread it across every corner of existence. Best bring your A game, or you'll no longer B. -LYRICS- The hunger that you’ve always known That rests in living bones Feel it drag you down Giving no slack just like a sack of stones Imagine in your head, the Hunger felt by the undead Unsatisfied but craving Neverending tides of curling red From the early days this tenebrous lord, Given fleshy form Stalked his way through time like the shadow of a storm It was that hunger that he felt Inside the depths of the Abyss A little grub with many plans That he would choose to not dismiss And as he worked his way above And put his rivals in their place His throne, what others couldn’t dream of Crooked grin across his face His rivals’ full attentions bared Whenever plans he dared Sewing chaos, mayhem, and confusion Everywhere he stared Giving gifts to mortals he knew could not control Watching with delight as their heads would roll None ever wiser to how much they would have to pay to pay off the toll From his throne, he waits In Thanatos the horrors he creates To stalk each realm And overwhelm The living when the light is low and night is coming Never spoken ‘til you’re broken, Sleep that’s not awoken, These are concepts that he scoffs at Turning nature’s precepts to a token Dangled for the bravest of those seeking to restore Some point of order to his chaos, will we see them evermore? Heroes, gather now, for the night at last arrives Please don’t bother with your courage, for it’s honed like rusty knives Against what’s in the abyss The will of Orcus That Shadow That Was certainly is And you will be missed If your blade misses! Nothing can prepare you, no, for nothing else compares to What goes on behind his mask And if you think you’ll ace this task I’ll ask you Once again to leave behind The burden you won’t need For when you meet him face to face There will be no time to concede And still he stays As all around him decays In his unending campaign until the end of days To be the last When life is put to the past Antithesis to “alive”, he’s the iconoclast ----- Dungeons & Dragons is © Wizards of the Coast LLC Tenebrous was originally composed, written, and performed by the Bard College of Citrus and released on June 30th (posted on YouTube on August 4th, 2022)
