Join me at home as I embrace the quiet and simple joys of autumn in my English kitchen and garden. I’m cooking a risotto with home-grown pumpkin and mushrooms, recipe testing for an apple cake, and harvesting the last of the apples and edible pumpkins (winter squash) my husband and I grew this summer on our plot at the local community gardens. This week I've also been trying to rebuild my reading habit, making time to get lost in a good novel, and experimenting with creating a natural dye with the petals of the hollyhocks I grew during the summer months. If you're new to my channel, hello, and welcome! My name is Stéphanie, I'm in my late 30s, and I live in the suburbs of a big English city with my husband and cat. I make slow, calm, peaceful videos about how my husband and I try to live a simple and sustainable life in a big city. I love cooking and baking from scratch, and creating meals with food we grow ourselves in our vegetable garden. I love gardening, growing food and flowers, spending time outdoors, making, crafting, and creating. I'm very much a quiet homebody with granny hobbies (there's no shame in that!) and I just love pottering around in my kitchen and garden. My videos are centred around my kitchen and garden, and they're very much a love letter to the passing seasons. I often describe my videos as slow life vlogs or slow living videos. Slow living is a phrase that makes me cringe a bit because I generally shy away from trends, but it's a useful way to connect with like-minded folk and so I use it as a means to an end. The cottagecore / mindfulness / fairy in the woods vibe that often goes hand in hand with slow living can feel a bit twee and faddy at times, but maybe I'm just too English and cynical for my own good! Still, at its heart slow living isn't just an aesthetic, it's about making time to appreciate the little things, seasonal joys, and quiet moments that often pass us by in our busy modern lives. Those are things that anyone and everyone can enjoy, no matter what shape our lives take. If you're into the same kinds of things as me, do say hi in the comments. I've got a huge back catalogue of videos you might enjoy, so have a browse and subscribe to keep in touch. 00:00 making risotto 04:53 harvesting pumpkins 07:54 apple picking 11:24 making dinner 13:21 autumn morning routine 16:33 making an apple cake 22:06 flower petal dye risotto recipe ingredients list: pearl barley, tinned beans (I used cannellini and flageolet), edible pumpkin or sweet potato, mushrooms, red onion, olive or rapeseed oil, sea salt, nutritional yeast, Dijon mustard (or English mustard if you fancy giving it more of a kick), balsamic vinegar, black pepper, and fresh flat leaf parsley. My apple cake is still in testing mode, so the recipe isn't quite shareable yet!
