Lake Isabel, located in the Wild Sky Wilderness near Index, Washington, is a seldom-visited alpine lake known for its scenic, challenging hike and great fishing. The route initially follows Forest Service roads and then a trail network, often rated moderate to difficult because of steep terrain and numerous blowdowns, which can make route-finding challenging in places. The lake’s outflow tumbles down an impressive 215-foot waterfall that begins beside a wonderful campsite near the lake.
