This prelude uses the subject from the 23rd Fugue in Volume Two of the Well-Tempered Clavier as the basis for inspiration. It is one of the closest to the original subject in this set of preludes in terms of rhythm...at least for the opening statement. There is such a wonderful feeling of joy and optimism in this piece as the chordal melody in the right hand keeps rising over waves of arpeggios in the left hand.
