Broken Arm (Wrist): EXOS BOA Removable Cast — Helpful Tips!

Last month (6/21) I experienced a Distal Radial Wrist fracture, where I wear my Fitbit on my left wrist. Three weeks out from the initial break and 2 weeks out from surgery, I was given this EXOS BOA removable cast. This video shares my experience with this high-tech cast and provides tips you may find useful should you or a loved one need such a cast. These tips will aid in comfort and minor adjustments that each individual can make to customize their own cast wearing experience. If there is enough interest in this topic, I'll follow up with a video on how I modified the palm of the cast to take ease the pressure on the nerves which are still sensitive and tingly 3 weeks out from surgery. It was simple, and it worked! Let me know if you have an interest in this in the comments. —CLEANING THE CAST: The cast can get a little smelly if you sweat in it and don't wear a cotton sleeve. Since I wear a cotton sleeve between the cast and my skin it has not gotten stinky. The Doctor mentioned that if I do need to wash it, do so in cold water by hand. Hot water will essentially make it a limp noodle. The manufacturer, recommends white vinegar and baking soda cold water wash. —MORE DETAILS ABOUT HOW HOW I GOT THE INJURY: While at a tournament in Fort Wayne, Indiana I was chasing down a lob over my partner's head, on match point to win the silver medal and possibly qualify for national's. However, my momentum took me a little too far out of balance and into a volleyball roll on my wrist. I don't think I will wear a Fitbit on my wrist again unless it has a breakaway band.
