BROOKES DOUBLE SINKS SAWBO Saturday 16th August 2025 Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round SAWBRIDGEWORTH TOWN 1 EYNESBURY ROVERS 3 Eynesbury Rovers bounced back from two consecutive league defeats with a convincing 3-1 victory at Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division leaders Sawbridgeworth Town to progress to the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup. Victor Osobu gave Rovers a half time lead before a second half double by Oliver Brookes put Eynesbury 3-0 ahead. Sawbridgeworth scored with the last kick of the game but by then Rovers were safely through. Tommy Reynolds made his first start in Eynesbury colours and could have marked it with a goal in the seventh minute but he headed wide from an Osobu left wing cross. Josh Darby threatened for the hosts but his shot was pushed out by James Hoskins and the follow up effort by Elijah Grant came off a defender and behind for a corner kick. Rovers took the lead in the 24th minute when a Max Kimpton corner was returned to him by Luke Young and from his cross Osobu volleyed home at the back post. Seven minutes later Jimmy Parker produced a fine save to deny Osobu after a run and pass by Young had set him up. From the resultant corner Brookes headed narrowly wide. At the other end Hoskins produced a fine save to deny Elijah Grant before Rovers had a ‘dress rehearsal’ for their second goal when a long Dan Hammer throw-in was headed wide by Brookes. In the 57th minute they got it right as Oliver Brookes headed home to make it 2-0. Just after the hour mark Sawbridgeworth made three substitutions in an attempt to get back into the game but on 73 minutes Brookes scored his second and Rovers third goal as he slammed the ball home from six yards after the hosts had failed to clear a corner kick. Sawbridgeworth had chances to get back into the game but Austen Garrod miscued his shot wide of goal and both Kieron David and Tom Millett were denied by Hoskins. However, in the 95th minute Millett scored a consolation goal as Sawbridgeworth made it 1-3. Rovers though were through to the next round and they will find out who their opponents will be on Monday afternoon. Rovers return to league action with a trip to Aylestone Park on Saturday 23rd August, kick off 3.00pm before hosting Coventry United on Bank Holiday Monday, also kicking off at 3.00pm.
