LATE KIMPTON STRIKE SECURES VASE PROGRESS ⚽ Saturday 20th September 2025 Isuzu FA Vase Second Qualifying Round EYNESBURY ROVERS 1 DISS TOWN 0 After Eynesbury Rovers’ Wembley hopes were dashed in the FA Cup last weekend they made progress in a more realistic route to the famous arch with an Isuzu FA Vase triumph over Diss Town of the Eastern Counties League First Division North. A Max Kimpton free kick six minutes from time was enough to secure their passage to the First Round Proper. Rovers were due to face Kirkley & Pakefield but they had fielded an ineligible player in their 2-0 win over Diss so the Norfolk club was reinstated into the competition. The first chance of the game fell to Max Kimpton but his shot came off a defender and went through to Kellett-Green in this Diss goal. Further chances came to Nathan George, but he headed over from a Lewis Lynn free kick; Michael King had a 20 yard shot cleared before Victor Osobu, on his return from suspension, missed a chance at the back post. Towards the end of the half Diss came more into the game as Charlie Webb headed a Callum Bray corner kick over the bar and later had a close range effort scooped off the line by James Hoskins at full stretch. Just before the break Kimpton did well when he created a chance for himself but shot straight at the keeper and early in the second half he was denied by Kellett-Green who pushed away his close range shot. Charlie Webb had two good opportunities for Diss but headed wide on both occasions before being replaced in the 64th minute and that proved to be the visitors’ last efforts on goal. Eynesbury stepped it up a gear in the second half and created a lot more chances. Reece King set up Luke Young in the box but he fired over before Osobu beat his man but saw his close range shot blocked by a defender. Oliver Brookes headed wide from a Kimpton corner before Max himself had two shots blocked by resolute defending. A Lewis Lynn drive was pushed behind by the keeper before Scott Joseph, making his debut as a 70th minute substitute, put a low ball into the box and a miscued clearance squirmed inches wide of the far post. Reece King had his shot blocked for a corner and from that flag kick Brookes had his effort saved. The break-through came after Young had been tripped on the edge of the penalty area by George Erith, who received a yellow card. Max Kimpton fired the free kick low into the corner to give Rovers a 1-0 lead. Further chances fell to Lynn, but he was denied by the keeper, and Osobu, but his late chance went wide. Next up for Eynesbury is a league fixture at Newport Pagnell Town on Tuesday 23rd September, kick off 7.45pm.
