English Idioms | To make a mountain out of a molehill

TRANSCRIPT Good morning, everyone! Happy Monday! Today I'm going to teach you a word that has two meanings which are totally different. And the word is "a mole". You call "a mole" a small furry animal that lives in passages it digs underground, and also "a mole" is a small dark permanent lump or spot on your skin. I have lots of those, you probably have those too. But let's talk about the animal. When a mole comes up to the surface it leaves a small pile of earth that's called "a molehill". And the idiom for today is "to make a mountain out of a molehill". Of course, a mountain and a molehill are very different in size, so when you make a mountain out of a molehill, you exaggerate the importance of something that's not very important, usually when you talk about problems. You have a tiny problem, but you say that you have a big problem. I think that it's very tiring to be around people who always make a mountain out of a molehill, so don't be the one doing it!
