Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) is a long-term, low-risk savings certificate scheme offered through India Post and authorized banks. Backed by the Government of India, the scheme guarantees that your investment will double over a fixed period. Key features Interest Rate: The interest rate for the second quarter of the 2025-2026 financial year (July to September 2025) is 7.5% per annum, compounded annually. Maturity Period: Your investment doubles in 115 months (9 years and 7 months). Investment Limit: Minimum: ₹1,000. Maximum: There is no upper limit on the investment amount. PAN Requirement: For investments of ₹50,000 and above, a PAN card is mandatory. Taxation: Interest earned on KVP is fully taxable, though there is no Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) on the maturity proceeds. Premature Withdrawal: A withdrawal is permitted after a lock-in period of 2.5 years (30 months). However, you get a reduced interest rate compared to the maturity amount. Nomination: You can nominate a beneficiary at the time of purchase or later. Loan Facility: KVP certificates can be used as collateral to secure loans from banks. Types of KVP certificates Single Holder: Issued to an adult for themselves or on behalf of a minor. Joint 'A' Type: Issued jointly to two adults, payable to both holders jointly or to the survivor. Joint 'B' Type: Issued jointly to two adults, payable to either holder or to the survivor. How to invest Get the application form (Form-A): You can get this form from any post office or download it from the India Post website. Fill out the form: Provide your personal details, investment amount, and nomination details. Submit KYC documents: Provide identity and address proof such as an Aadhaar card, PAN card, or passport. Make the payment: Pay the investment amount by cash, cheque, or demand draft. Receive the certificate: You will receive a KVP certificate as proof of your investment.
