In this woodturning video, I show the process of transforming a piece of Osage Orange wood into a resin and wood potpourri dish. First, I glued two pieces of Osage Orange together to make a better shaped end product. After mixing Alumilite Clear Cast Resin, I tinted it with blue pearl resin powder and activated charcoal powder. The wood was set into a mold, the resin added, and then it was pressure cast to fill cracks and gaps and compress potential bubbles. Once cured (24hrs), I turned the resin casting into a rounded dish shape on the lathe, leaving enough wood at the top for a decorative bead detail and to create a recess for a pewter lid with a butterfly design. After hollowing out the inside, I added a large and small decorative bead detail near the lid inlay. To finish, I sanded up to 320 grit, sealed with sanding sealer, polished with micro abrasives, and buffed to a shine. The end result is a potpourri dish highlighting the beautiful natural color and grain patterns of Osage Orange wood with decorative pearlescent blue and black resin details. The pewter butterfly lid tops it off! #woodturning #woodturner #wood #osageorange #positivegravity #pgcraftshop #resin #resinart #resinbox #turnedresin #oregonartist #oregonart #smellsgood #potpourri #lathe #woodlathe #woodshoplife #woodshop TIMESTAMPS 0:00 Introduction 3:02 Resin casting 7:12 Add tenon to bottom 9:25 Start turning top and outside 14:10 Add recessed area for lid 16:10 Start hollowing 19:48 Finishing 25:45 Turning off the tenon and finishing bottom 27:34 Finished product
