In this video we see V/Line trains in Shepparton, a large city in the Goulburn Valley in northern Victoria. Here we see various N Class locomotive hauled passenger trains at various locations in the area, including at the station where we see some shunting. We also take a quick look around Shepparton itself, including the Victoria Park Lake, and take in the views from the Shepparton/Telstra tower. Situated along the Goulburn River, Shepparton is one of the largest cities in northern Victoria with a population of around 50,000, and serves as the terminus of V/Line's Shepparton line. Shepparton was developed as a railway town based off agriculture, and had lines running further north to Dookie/Katamatite, Cobram, and Tocumwal in New South Wales, with V/Line even once running a passenger rail service to Cobram. Today only the line to Tocumwal is still open; being used infrequently by the Tocumwal freight train. However Shepparton may soon enjoy a new golden age of passenger rail. The state government is currently upgrading the line to it can one day introduce Vlocity trains on the line. The idea is to increase track speeds on the line and improve the frequency of trains to nine daily return services to Melbourne (currently it's five on weekdays), which will drastically improve rail access to Shepparton from Melbourne. Stage 2 of the project is currently underway which among things includes platform extensions at Shepparton line stations, level crossing upgrades and an extended crossing loop at Murchison to accommodate future Vlocity services. However there's no timeline as to when the project will be fully completed. This video was filmed between September and December 2019.
