In this video we see V/Line N Class locomotive-hauled trains with H Set carriages on the Shepparton Line. V/Line's H Type carriages (marshaled to form H Sets) started out life as Harris electric multiple units for suburban services around Melbourne; with 436 carriages built between 1956 - 1971. Between 1984 - 1992, 59 carriages were rebuilt into locomotive hauled carriages for use on the V/Line regional rail network; with refurbished interiors with larger seats, air conditioning, and toilets. They were intended for shorter-distance interurban services, but can occasionally be seen operating long-distance services to Shepparton. Each weekday there are always two services on the line that are rostered as H Sets; the 5:12am service to Melbourne in the morning and the 7:07pm service to Shepparton in the evening, with all other services on the line being hauled with N Sets (with first class and a buffet). However it is fairly common for a H Set to substitute a N Set at other times, including on weekends. We see V/Line H Set services at various locations along the Shepparton Line, including Murchison East, Toolamba, Mooroopna, Shepparton, and more. Date: Filmed between June - October 2020.
