Fly with us in our Piper Arrow into tank territory at Chiriaco Summit Airport (L77) onto Runway 24. We’ll talk about why this is a massively underrated airport and what you MUST see when you stop here. As always, we’ll show you around the airport and depart Chiriaco Summit with a spectacular tail cam view. There are tie-down chains available but they are thick and heavy and may not work for your plane. Bring your own tie down straps. This is the desert and it gets very windy so make sure to tie-down. FUEL There is no fuel here so please plan accordingly. The closest airport with 100LL avgas is Thermal Airport (KTRM) 25 miles to the West and Blythe Airport (KBLH) 45 miles to the East. RESTROOMS Restrooms are located inside the Chiriaco Summit Coffee Shop, the Chevron gas station and the General Patton Museum (for museum visitors only). COURTESEY CAR / RIDESHARE There are no courtesy cars available. Rideshare will likely not be an option. There is nothing for miles in either direction so there is no need for a vehicle. FOOD The Chiriaco Summit Coffee Shop is the main restaurant here. The menu is varied – you’ll find traditional American diner breakfast and lunch options as well as a few Mexican food options. The desserts are a big draw. The coffee shop also serves coffee, pastries and ice cream. The attached gift shop has snack and drinks available for purchase. The Chevron across the parking lot also includes a Foster’s Freeze which serves quick service food options along with soft serve. MUSEUM Walk west beyond the coffee shop, patio and tanks and you’ll find the remembrance wall. Follow the wall to the big statue of Patton and Willy. The entrance to the museum is just behind this statue. The museum is air conditioned and could take 1-2 hours to walk through the entire museum thoroughly. The museum cost $18 adults, $15 seniors and military veterans and $10 children. Hours are 9:30am-4:30pm daily. We highly recommend visiting the museum especially if you love tanks.
